CROCHET - CACTUS

yay! they are finished!
the sister in law of a friend of mine (i know...) ordered these cactusses, uhm cacti? she saw them at a shop and really liked them, but didnt like the price tag so much. so i crocheted away. it took some getting used to, because i'd just done some items where i didnt have to count every row, stitch, decrease, increase etc. but i think they turned out alright. ánd much more cuddly than the real thing! ánd they dont shrivel up and die :-) i think thats a win-win situation going on here!

HOW I JOIN GRANNY SQUARES

this i how i join granny squares.
(normally i would crochet the last round with the same color as the joining yarn)
1// place the squares right sides together
2// start in the corner gap by putting your hook through the gaps on both squares and slip stitch 3//
4// slip stitch in the OUTER LOOPS only to the next gap
5// see, outer loops only
6// when your at the next gap, repeat step 2//
7// this is what it looks like from the wrong side, the backside of your blanket
8// ans this is how it looks on the front! when you've crocheted the last rounds of the square in grey, it will be invisible :-)

WOOL FROM BERLIN

this is the wool i bought at this very very cool wool shop in Kreuzberg, Berlin. the grey is a sort of sea green grey, and the other colors are pretty accurate in the photo.
i havent got a clue what i'll be making from this, do you have a suggestion maybe?

i hope this day will be as sunny as yesterday! or else, tea will do ;-)

TODAY - LOVE IN AN ARTGALLERY

i love these beautiful illustrations from Lizzy Stewart. i found this image via Oh Comely Magazine, which i bought in berlin. a berlin post is coming up soon! i havent read much in the magazine, because i want to save it for when i have to be on an airplane for 10 hours, i think ill need some good magazines to fill that day. im not a big fan of flying, not at all, im always scared that we're going to crash. silly isnt it?
but then again, im also not a fan of needles, and today i did get my vaccinations without any hysterical aarrggghhh moment, so maybe flying will be ok this time :-)

BERLIN BABY!

i'm in berlin! and loving it! haha well i guess i'll be loving it, because i'm writing this in advance :-)
i'm sooo looking forward in sleeping in this cute caravan, with my man, and sleeping in, eating all day long and walking around.
i've been to berlin before, and i just HAVE to visit my alltime favorite wool-shop: faden insel, i think it means color island, but my german is terrible, so i'll just stick to english.
when i'm back i'll share some photo's with you. and also of my custom order for a friend of a friend: crocheted cacti!

THIS WEEK ...

 this week will be a crazy week. working and trying to pack for a worktrip to poland on friday. i dont know if ill be able to post anything the next two weeks, but ill try! i've re-discovered what i like about blogging, although i still sometimes think: should i post the stuff i want to, or what i think people will want to read? i try to balance that, because this blog is mainly for (because i want to blog) and i just hope people will like to read and watch.
so as you can see the artichoke has bloomed :-) so pretty!
and i found a way to join my granny square blanket in a way that i really like, ive made some photo's of it, hope to make them into a tutorial soon(ish)
 

KNIT AND CROCHET

did you know i also knit? not as in knitting a cardigan, but in knitting only the ripple stitch. i really like the ripple stitch, so its no problem thats the only thing i know to do.
i made these baby blankets, i love them, grey with a pop of color. i dont have a baby, so these are going up in the shop :-)
do you have a dawanda account? do you have any tips? im thinking of opening an etsy account, but im worried that i wont stand out between ALL those sellers.

AWESOME CROCHET BLANKET

I know i've complained here about crocheting blankets, it takes forever to finish one. But then i saw an AWESOME blanket that i just have to make. I havent got a clue where i'm going to find the time, but i just love this one.
It's from the blog of Pescnos Frirum, but... its in Danish, so i'll try to translate it, or is anybody reading this very good in Danish?

WILDWOOD - AGAIN!

Here's me shamelessly talking yet again about my favorite book. I've ordered the 2nd book for Sarah's birthday, but also ordered it for myself :-)
The 1st book takes place in the Wildwood, man, with these dreamy illustrations it made me want to go to the woods myself. The 2nd book takes place in the city i guess. I hope its just as great as the first book.
If you are looking for a nice present for a birthday (adult or child) or something for Sinterklaas (thats a Dutch tradition like christmas) this is the one :-)

Today is my boyfriends birthday, yay! Yesterday our parents came for dinner, it was the first time they met. It was so much fun, talking, laughing and eating the whole night long.
My mother gave us a beautiful bowl they'd bought at a pottery market, i'll make a photo soon, the colors are perfect!
I'm real happy living together with my man, but i'm not looking forward to october. I get to do lots of cool things in october, but i wont be seeing much of him :-(
Early october im going to Poland with 20 students for my work. Then we'll have some time together (autumn vacation) and we're going to Berlin (soooo cool, i'll have to post photo's where we will be sleeping, i cant wait, so exited!!) and then, ill go to Surinam, also for my work, with people from schools all over the Netherlands. Also really really really great!
So i dont really have anything to complain about, but the working schedule of my man is just opposite of mine, meaning that he doesnt have to work when i'm away, and has to work (on location) when im home...
I know, i know, i havent got anything to complain about, but im not looking foward to it, having a long distance relationship for a month.

What is a good sollution, do you have suggestions? Skype? Something else? Have you ever been in a long distance relationship? Id love to hear it!

FOXES ON A TUESDAY

These photo's of foxes are made by Roeselien Raimond. Very pretty! Take a look on her website.
Foxes, they seem such wise animals. I've only seen flashes of them in the wild, a fiery red color that flashes by. I live very near a big park, i wonder of the foxes come out at night. My dream house would be somewhere where foxes and deers just come walking by my window. Maybe thats why i love the Wildwood book so much.
